Infosys Technologies announces its first quarter number for year 2008-2009.It has given very good increase in Profit from 1249 to 1302 crore which is a growth of 4.24 percent which is more than expected on the sales side it shot up by 6.87% at Rs 4,854 crore from Rs 4,542 crore QoQ .The EPS for the quarter is set at 22.71.
Spice Telecom spurted today by whopping 33 percent or so and closed the day at 72.35 after opening at 54.15 , The News buzz is that Idea Cellular said it would merge Spice with itself through a share swap whereby Spice shareholders would get 49 Idea shares for every 100 Spice shares held. Idea also said that it would make an open offer for additional 20% stake to Spice Communicaton shareholders at Rs 77.30 a share. So we will see if this runs more than this or just stops there.Spice Communication is a loss making company they have license in almost 6 to 7 states and they also procie internet and broadband based services.
Apple’s latest offering ‘iPhone 3G’ which was introduced to Us yesterday and was told that it will be sold from june or july month will also be available in india by year end or so , As Telecom company is waiting for a Nod from Government to go ahead with the Third Generation mobile services .Both Bharti and Vodafone will have the phone available from stores and also one step further Vodafone said it will have Pre Registration available so they can book it online .
Reliance communication has informed the market that they have entered into negotiation agreement with MTN Group of africa and the details is as follows.

Idea Cellular Ltd has informedthe market that the Board of Directors of the Company, on May 22, 2008, has taken note of the proposed issuance by Aditya Birla Telecom Ltd (”ABTL”) (a wholly owned subsidiary of Idea Cellular Ltd) of compulsorily convertible preference shares for an aggregate sum of USD 640 million, to be converted into 20% of equity share capital of ABTL post dilution, to an affiliate of Providence Equity Partners, and has approved the transaction documents for this purpose. The aforementioned investment is subject to the receipt of regulatory approvals, including the approval of the FIPB.

Everyone would be looking for infosys results which are coming out tomorrow. Infosys seen reporting good Q4 March 2008 results. A total of five prominent brokerages expect a between 3.56% to 6.2% growth in Infosys.
Estimate
>Consolidated net profit at between Rs 1223.10 crore to Rs 1254.40 crore in Q4 March 2008 over Q3 December 2007.
>Operating profit margin is seen remain more or less steady compared to 32.6% in Q3 December 2007.
>Expect Revnue growth of 5.5% to 6.5% at between Rs 4504.50 crore to Rs 4546.90 crore.
In just 12 more hours we will see if they beat the estimates or go below.
Just saw this news in Hindu that Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Friday said it was in favor of implementing nationwide ‘mobile number portability’ (MNP) by June 2009. It has now asked the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to select an operator who will be licensed for providing and operating end-to-end MNP solution.So we will see some action in this line soon , but not sure what will happen if the next government comes.
